About Helen’s Angels Pink Ball Tournament
What is significant about the event?
Helen’s Angels was named for my mother, Helen Henderson, in honor of her courageous battle with breast cancer. While Helen is sadly no longer physically with us, she is with us in spirit. What better way to honor my mom and mothers everywhere than to bring together our friends and Angels, old and new, for a round of golf around Mother’s Day to help fight this terrible disease.
Since 2011, Helen’s Angels has had very successful fundraising events enabling us to help so many people in the area undergoing treatment for breast cancer or provide assistance for those recovering.
Our fundraising efforts total over $1,800,000 since we hosted our first Tinis for Tatas event in 2011. In 2014, we strategically entered into two partnerships with Thomas Jefferson’s Breast Cancer Center and MD Anderson/Cooper’s Breast Cancer Center. These partnerships have enabled us to more quickly and more effectively reach those women, men and families who are struggling financially, emotionally and physically from their breast cancer diagnosis. For the past two years, we have made significant donations to each of these centers and we plan to do so again this year–and it’s all through your generosity. In fact, because of your support, we are hoping to expand our partnerships with other area hospitals and organizations whose mission is aligned with ours.
In addition to those who have received assistance through these funds, Helen’s Angels has made direct donations to over 30 women who were nominated by a friend or family member. Each of these women’s story is unique, but their end game is the same–beat breast cancer! We thank those Angels who brought them to our door and we encourage everyone to do the same. I truly wish for a world where grandmothers, mothers, wives, sisters, grandfathers, fathers, brothers and friends do not have to tell their families “I have breast cancer.” Until that day, my hope is that despite what challenges they face, there is someone they can reach out to for help…someone like Helen’s Angels.
